Monica Geary is given a rather rude awakening about her career as a soap star when she meets the newest member of the cast. Hoping to beef up her publicity and appearance in the papers, she agrees to “dating” the New York Blade’s Eric Mitchell. Although she personally can’t stand his overbearing ego, he is gorgeous and attracts a lot of press. Both agree to a “mutually beneficial relationship”. But can she stick to her part of the bargain when she really gets to know the hunk?
Eric Mitchell agrees to acting as Monica’s boyfriend when he sees just how impressed his teammates are with the fact that he’s seeing her. After his less than spectacular opening performance, he needs all the help with his teammates he can get. But how will he handle it when Monica seems to fall for him? Will he revert to his womanizing ways or take a risk with his own feelings?
Once again Deidre Martin has penned a winner with Power Play! Fans will recognize Eric and his brother Jason along with other members of the Blades from her previous books. It’s like catching up with old friends while at the same time getting to know new ones. At first, Eric is unbelievably annoying, yet still gorgeous. Thankfully Monica brings out the best in him as they tentatively explore their relationship. The verbal sparring is just what you’d expect from Ms. Martin: acerbic but also lighthearted, not to mention laugh-out-loud funny at times. As these two trade barbs, they also get to know each other, something neither have allowed in quite a long time and something they both discover they need as their personal and professional lives become topsy turvy. Not only are Monica and Eric sexy and fun, but the secondary characters also provide a lot of the humor and support to Eric and Monica in this wonderful tale of two cautious people finding something they never expected. Deidre Martin blends romance, comedy, and hockey into a story that is a true Power Play!
