Quinn Hurst spends her life alone, fighting Tulpas, soulless evil creations that only slayers can recognize. After disposing of a Tulpa, she discovers a street kid watching her. She senses he is someone special and is instantly drawn to him. Tyson started on his road to becoming a street kid when he lost his parents six months ago. He deciding living on the streets was better after experiencing bad foster homes. Quinn can’t leave him alone and she decides to try and provide for him. Tyson is very clever and sees everything. He alerts Quinn to the fact that they are being followed. Ruth Ross, her follower, is a slayer as well. She lives with a group of slayers who are coordinating their efforts. She tries to convince Quinn to join them but Quinn is not ready to trust. When Tyson leads her to a nest of Tulpas, Quinn realizes she may need their help. Approaching Ruth’s group, she meets Garen Snyder and the sparks fly. Quinn does not want to get close to anyone. She knows her past is just waiting to catch up to her and ruin her life and the lives of those with her.
Robin Leigh Miller has an incredible ability to create a world filled with very scary possibilities. The Tulpa is a thought creation that will become evil and kill its creator. The slayers can see the aura a Tulpa projects, allowing them to recognize and destroy them. Working with Garen and the others has been good for Quinn but she knows it cannot last. Garen knows that Quinn is for him if only he can get past her defenses. Well developed characters, a suspenseful plot and lots of emotion make Soulless a book to add to your must read list. Robin Leigh Miller just keeps getting better and better.
